What Everett Renters Ask
Does my dog need a muzzle on an Everett bus?
A pet dog does. Everett Transit requires dogs to be leashed and muzzled, and every other animal to travel in an approved carrier. Service and guide animals are allowed on all Everett Transit buses without that requirement.
Are the rules different on Community Transit?
Yes. Community Transit welcomes service animals and does not require them to be muzzled, but it treats emotional support animals as pets, and pet dogs and cats need a leash and a commercially produced muzzle. On Sound Transit vehicles only service animals and small animals in carriers are allowed.
When does an animal need a license in Everett?
Cats, dogs and pot-bellied pigs aged six months or older living in the city must be licensed. The Everett Animal Shelter has handled licensing through an online partner since May 2025, and discounted senior and disabled licenses are available on 425-257-6000.
Can an Everett landlord charge a pet deposit for an assistance animal?
No. Charging a pet deposit on top of the standard cleaning or damage deposit is an unfair practice under state rule WAC 162-38-100, and Everett has no ordinance that changes that. The standard deposit still applies.
