Get a legitimate emotional support animal or psychiatric service dog letter in Kentucky through secure screening and a real evaluation by a Kentucky-licensed provider.

Every Kentucky ESA letter follows a real clinical evaluation — we do not sell instant approvals or badges.
Ask a leasing office in Louisville or Lexington why a request was turned down and the answer is very often that the building does not permit dogs of that size, or that breed, or any dog at all. Every one of those is a pet-policy answer to a question that was not about pets.
An approved assistance animal is not being admitted as a pet, so the policy that governs pets is not the instrument that decides it. Saying so plainly, in writing, resolves a meaningful share of Kentucky refusals without anything further.
| Type | What it means for you in Kentucky |
|---|---|
| Emotional support animal | No training is required or assumed. The benefit is the animal’s presence, a Kentucky-licensed clinician documents the need, and the protection covers your home only. |
| Psychiatric service dog | A dog taught to perform a specific act tied to your disability. That trained work carries public access under the ADA as well as housing rights. |
| Pet | Governed entirely by the lease. Pet rent, deposits and breed limits all apply, and the landlord may simply say no. |
The Kentucky Civil Rights Act at KRS Chapter 344 covers disability discrimination in housing, and the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights investigates. Louisville and Lexington each also operate a local human relations body, which can be quicker to reach than either state or federal channels.
All of them start from the same place, and none of them can do much with a refusal that was only ever spoken aloud.
Away from the two big cities you are much more likely to be dealing with an owner directly. That tends to make the conversation easier rather than harder, provided it starts with a document instead of a request for a favour.
The free screening comes first and costs nothing. Where it indicates an evaluation is worthwhile, a Kentucky-licensed clinician conducts one by video and issues a letter if the assessment supports it.
Weight and breed restrictions belong to the pet policy, and an approved assistance animal is not being housed as a pet. A refusal needs a reason specific to your animal rather than a category rule.
They may ask for verification that a disability-related need exists. They are not entitled to the diagnosis itself, and a letter can confirm the need without naming it.
Rarely. Kentucky housing providers look for a Kentucky licence, and a neighbouring state’s credential does not substitute.
The screening is free. A fee applies only once a clinician has concluded documentation is appropriate and you decide to go ahead, at the amounts shown below from live plan settings.
No law requires it. Kentucky landlords generally want something written inside the last twelve months, so renewing before a lease renewal is the practical habit.

Since the credential is what a Kentucky housing provider actually verifies, it is confirmed before the evaluation is booked rather than afterwards.
